Though we live in an era of rage toward clergy for abusing adolescents, CNN's Father Edward Beck sure knows how to blame teenage victims and confuse issues, all the while displaying a deficient theological formation and a hyper-acute sense of HIS victimization. As per Father Beck's CNN piece of Thurs, Jan 24:
"Some have suggested that a full viewing of available video of the incident shows that the students were not the aggressors. So what? It doesn't matter who moved toward whom first. It doesn't matter who provoked the incident. It doesn't matter that some adults may have acted poorly....
"the boys should [not] have been permitted to wear MAGA hats to the March for Life event they attended. The 'Make America Great Again' slogan has become political code for an agenda that is often in opposition with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church....
"The Catholic Church's pro-life teaching encompasses a panoply of issues such as: abortion, immigration, capital punishment, the environment and climate change, sex trafficking, and the inequitable distribution of the world's resources. Some claim the 'MAGA philosophy' is not in accord with church teaching on many of these issues. Teachers and chaperones from the Catholic school should have discouraged students from, however unwittingly, promoting a questionable partisan political agenda....
"On Monday we celebrated the life of a man who stood on the National Mall in Washington DC to proclaim his hope and dream for America. I fear that decades later, this weekend's event on that same mall suggests that we have far to go in realizing that dream."
Father Beck, are you dismissing the entire witness of the March for Life? And where is your outrage that police were not called, when children were assaulted with vile vulgarities? Where is your applause for children who were doing the most politically incorrect thing and defending the sanctity of the most vulnerable human beings?
