If McCarrick is Guilty, Don't Laicize HIm, EXCOMMUNICATE Him

  • "The Tablet has learned that the Vatican is now investigating a total of three cases of abuse against the former archbishop of Washington, one of which has yet to be publicly reported.... many observers have eagerly been awaiting the review of the two cases to see if they result in the eventual laicization of McCarrick.... Two sources have confirmed to The Tablet that the CDF will meet in mid-January to review all cases against McCarrick with a potential disposition by the end of the month" (The Tablet [of the Brooklyn Diocese], 1/5/19)

  • "'Reduce him down to the level of the laity....Think about that. What does that imply? What do people think about laity?  That if you’re a prelate, and a predator, and a promoter, and a protector, and you’re caught... Boom! You can’t be clergy; you have to be at the level of the laity! So much for the universal call to holiness'....

"Hahn pointed out that St. Paul prescribes the 'hard medicine' of excommunication in his First Letter to the Corinthians (1 Cor 5:1-5)....The point of excommunicating...is not 'to get even' or even primarily 'to purify the Church' but for 'the man’s salvation'....

"He said that it was 'almost unbelievable' that people were confronting these sins and wondering if McCarrick should be merely stripped of the cardinalate or also laicized"(Scott Hahn: Don’t laicize sexual predators–excommunicate them, LifeSiteNews, 10/4/18).
