"But I don't love him!"

"Stan and Ollie" and the BBC's "Stan" are wonderful films about the final years of a legendary comedic duo.  Though oft married (4 times for Stan Laurel and 3 for Oliver Hardy), their heyday pre-dated society's uncritical acceptance of entertainers as embodiments of wisdom on marriage and family issues.  Society only looked to Laurel and Hardy for laughs.  The below scene from 1934's March of the Wooden Soldiers was funny because of its absurdity!

The March for Life Needs to TRULY Reaffirm Itself and Apologize to the Covington Boys

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (1/27/19) (audio) (signed homily)

Stand with the Covington high school students (AFA, 1/24/19
Anyone who has ever been at the March for Life is acutely aware that a tremendous block of Marchers consists of Catholic high school students, whose parents are trusting that they will be safe from harm and slander. Deleting the tweet is not enough.   Remind the March for Life to apologize to Nick Sandmann and the other young pro life witnesses (This email will work best from the home page.).

Though we live in an era of rage toward clergy for abusing adolescents, CNN's Father Edward Beck sure knows how to blame teenage victims and confuse issues, all the while displaying a deficient theological formation and a hyper-acute sense of HIS victimization. Remind Father Beck to apologize to Nick Sandmann and the other young pro life witnesses (This email will work best from the home page.).

...Father Edward Beck sure knows how to blame teenage victims...

Though we live in an era of rage toward clergy for abusing adolescents, CNN's Father Edward Beck sure knows how to blame teenage victims and confuse issues, all the while displaying a deficient theological formation and a hyper-acute sense of HIS victimization.  As per Father Beck's CNN piece of Thurs, Jan 24:

"Some have suggested that a full viewing of available video of the incident shows that the students were not the aggressors. So what? It doesn't matter who moved toward whom first. It doesn't matter who provoked the incident. It doesn't matter that some adults may have acted poorly....

"the boys should [not] have been permitted to wear MAGA hats to the March for Life event they attended. The 'Make America Great Again' slogan has become political code for an agenda that is often in opposition with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church....

"The Catholic Church's pro-life teaching encompasses a panoply of issues such as: abortion, immigration, capital punishment, the environment and climate change, sex trafficking, and the inequitable distribution of the world's resources. Some claim the 'MAGA philosophy' is not in accord with church teaching on many of these issues. Teachers and chaperones from the Catholic school should have discouraged students from, however unwittingly, promoting a questionable partisan political agenda....

"On Monday we celebrated the life of a man who stood on the National Mall in Washington DC to proclaim his hope and dream for America. I fear that decades later, this weekend's event on that same mall suggests that we have far to go in realizing that dream."

Father Beck, are you dismissing the entire witness of the March for Life?  And where is your outrage that police were not called, when children were assaulted with vile vulgarities?  Where is your applause for children who were doing the most politically incorrect thing and defending the sanctity of the most vulnerable human beings?

"Friendly" Fire aimed at children

Isn't calumny toward teens a form of child abuse? Apologies are owed to Covington HS students from the March for Life, the Diocese of Covington, and Covington HS?
  • "this past weekend, a video went viral showing a group of boys, many of them in MAGA hats, surrounding an older Native American man who was banging a drum.....The man, Nathan Phillips, told two different versions of what happened. He told The Washington Post that he was singing a traditional song when the teenagers swarmed around him, some chanting, 'Build that wall, build that wall.' He decided the right thing to do was to get away....He told The Detroit Free Press that the incident started when the boys started attacking four African-Americans. So he decided to intervene....The institutions in charge of serving the boys did what institutions always do in the face of a social media mob. They cratered. The school and archdiocese apologized. The mayor of Covington denounced them.  On Sunday several longer videos emerged showing that most of what Phillips had told the media was inaccurate. The incident actually started when members of ...— the Black Hebrew Israelites — started hurling racist and homophobic slurs at the boys.  The Covington boys eventually asked their chaperone if they could do their school cheers. As they were doing that Phillips walked into the middle of their circle and banged his drum in the face of one of the boys....The Covington case was...a blatant rush to judgment" (David Brooks, NY Times, 1/21/19)

This is the Good News, even if those who invited Him didn’t know yet that the Son of God was seated at their table and that He is the true Groom. In fact, the whole mystery of the sign of Cana is founded on the presence of this Divine Groom, Jesus, who begins to reveal Himself. Jesus manifests Himself as the Groom of the People of God, proclaimed by the prophets, and it reveals to us the depth of the relationship that unites us to Him: it’s a new Covenant of love" (Pope Francis, 1/20/19).

re: Press release: Taxpayer funding of abortion threat in PA (Pa Pro Life Federation, 1/17/19)

Kudos to the Pa Pro Life Federation for alerting us to this.  Yet, to say that "Pennsylvania's abortion totals are at a record low" requires accepting stats that overlook the all too likely massive numbers from elsewhere, such as abortifacient "contraceptives."

Taxpayers Will Be Outraged at Suit Requiring Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

Harrisburg, PA—Taxpayers across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will be outraged by a lawsuit demanding that hard-earned tax dollars be spent on abortion.

Abortion facilities in Pennsylvania have filed a suit that would require taxpayer-funded Medicaid money to be spent on abortion in an attempt to overturn the Keystone State's long-standing ban on the practice.

"Poll after poll has shown that taxpayers in the U.S. do not want their tax money to be spent on abortion, period," said Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director for the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, an affiliate of National Right to Life. "This lawsuit flies in the face of the will of the people to safeguard their money from abortion," Gallagher added.

The lawsuit, known as Allegheny Reproductive Health Center v. Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, represents a giant step backward in both the protection of tax money and the protection of women and their preborn children from the harm of abortion.

"Research shows quite clearly that taxpayer funding of abortion is greatly unpopular. At a time when Pennsylvania's abortion totals are at a record low, abortion businesses are trying to capture a lucrative market to prop up their sagging industry. This is a lose-lose proposition—for taxpayers and for pregnant women," Gallagher said.

Pennsylvania's law is constitutional and should be upheld, Gallagher added.
