    • "In 1976, James Buckley was trying to maintain his U.S. Senate seat against a challenge by Ambassador Daniel Patrick Moynihan. While both were practicing Catholics, only Buckley was identifiably pro-life. One of the religious brothers from our school told my buddy that he was voting for Moynihan because Moynihan’s positions were supposedly better for economically impoverished people. Somehow, I do not recall the brother’s 'calculus' ever being explained. Is it any wonder that Catholic lay people did not take the horrendous crime against humanity, abortion, with sufficient seriousness when Catholic leaders had dismissive attitudes about abortion?"                       "The best way to describe Dorothy’s 'politics' is as a politics of anti-centralization that opposes the Leviathan of the outsized, modern centralized State and the bureaucratic apparatus that imposes itself with ever greater force upon all of us.... True subsidiarity, as Dorothy understood, requires the recognition that there are competencies and forms of natural authority, rooted in divine and natural law.... [She] believed passionately that if all Christians lived the Gospel radically that a more just form of 'politics' would emerge from that effort."

                      • The Family vs Capitalism, 1936: '….in New York…, there is no diocesan provision whatsoever for the poor who are trying to observe the teachings of the Church against birth control and raise families despite their economic circumstances….'
                      • On Pilgrimage, 1963: '….Sex is a profound force, having to do with life, the forces of creation which make man god-like….'
                      • Chastity, 1966: '….the marriage act purged of impurities is the nearest thing to the beatific vision we can know…. '
                      • On Pilgrimage, 1972: '….birth control and abortion are genocide….'
                      • On Pilgrimage, 1980: '….When she [my sister] went on to exhort me on another occasion, that I should not urge, as a Catholic, Tamar, my daughter, to have so many children, I got up firmly and walked out of the house….'

                    Sts Dominic & Lawrence update

                    • Super AWKWARD Walgreens Encounter: Men Pick Up Pills For Their Pregnant Women (Live Action, 8/5/23)
                    • Promoting the Sanctity of Human Life and the Sanctity of Marriage/Family/Human Sexuality (Sts Dominic & Lawrence edition)
                      • Father Dominic founded a 13th century order, which combated the Albigensian heresy.  Albigensians/Cathars were the latest incarnation of a dualistic heresy (Much earlier, Augustine of Hippo was taken with the Manichean/dualist heresy.). As per this heresy, God is NOT all powerful and is perpetually at war with an equally powerful bad god. In their convoluted thinking, the body is bad.  They fail to recognize the significance of the "resurrection of the body"; that God wants our bodies and souls in Heaven!  Dominic's memorial is August 8.
                      • Lawrence was a 3rd century, 33year old Roman deacon. Ordered to gather up & surrender the Church's treasure, he gathered impoverished peoples for whom the Church was caring (No government safety net.).  "Here's the Church's treasure," he announced.  The powers that be (or that were) were not amused and decided on a slow death for Lawrence.  While being roasted on an open fire, Lawrence told his torturers: "You can turn me over, I am done on this side."  Lawrence is remembered as the patron saint of chefs and comedians.  His feast day is August 10.
