"This is it – now through Wednesday, October 17th are the last days of the legislative session for Pennsylvania government and one bill in particular - the Down Syndrome Protection Act, House Bill 2050 - remains close to becoming law but still needs one final vote by the PA Senate. That's why we need your help ASAP by making a few phone calls (and recruiting others to do the same).
"First, would you please make two phone calls to Senate Leadership: 'Do all you can to bring the Down Syndrome Protection Act up for a vote this week!'
"Majority Leader Senator Jake Corman: 717-787-1377
"President Pro Tempore Senator Joe Scarnati: 717-787-7084
"Bill Summary: The Down Syndrome Protection Act (House Bill 2050) is addressing a growing problem. Prenatal testing is rapidly increasing in frequency with its primary purpose of targeting babies with possible Down syndrome for abortion. This bill would end the targeting of these unborn children by banning an abortion solely on the basis of a diagnosis for Down syndrome, the same way Pennsylvania already bans sex-selective abortions. House Bill 2050 has already passed the PA House with a 71% bipartisan majority but is still awaiting action by the PA Senate, which must happen before the voting session ends Wednesday, October 17th.
"Why call Senate Leadership? In order for your State Senator to vote on the bill, Senate leadership must first decide to bring the bill up for a vote. That's why we encourage you to call two Senators' office ASAP - Senator Jake Corman and Senator Joseph Scarnati - and ask for the Down Syndrome Protection Act to be brought up for a vote this week.
*Second, after you've made these calls, please share this alert with friends and family....
"We also have an action alert you may use to contact your own State Senator in support of the legislation: pafamily.org/downsyndrome "
