- "Right now, Governor Tom Wolf is trying to force religious adoption and foster care agencies to either violate their religious beliefs by placing children in the homes of same-sex parents or stop their ministries. The Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN)...is refusing to allow faith-based foster care and adoption agencies to participate in the program unless they agree to place children in homes with same-sex parents....Click here to use our action alert to send your elected officials an email" (Pa Family Council, 6/25/19).
- "The federal Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act (H.R. 897 / S. 274) would prevent government discrimination against faith-based child welfare service providers, including adoption and foster care agencies" (USCCB)
- As of 6/25/19, both Pa and NJ are being betrayed by their Washington delegations on the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act.
- While Pa can be proud that Rep Mike Kelly (R) is the lead sponsor of HR 897 and is joined by Rep Reschenthaler (R) and Rep Smucker (R), BRIAN FITZPATRICK (R) and all the other members of the Pa delegation in the House s are NOT! From NJ, only Rep Chris Smith is a co-sponsor of HR 897.
- In the Senate, Casey (D), Toomey (R), Booker (D) and Menendez (D) are all failing to cosponsor S 274.
- “Our faith calls us to uphold every individual’s dignity and rights against unjust discrimination – including in employment, housing, and services – regardless of characteristics or background. Rather than offering meaningful protections for individuals, the [federal] Equality Act would impose sweeping new norms that negatively impact the unborn, health care, charitable services, schools, personal privacy, athletics, free speech, religious liberties, and parental rights. The Act’s unsound definitions of ‘sex’ and ’gender identity’ would erase women’s distinct, hard-won recognition in federal laws. Its sex-based nondiscrimination terms would end women’s shelters and many single-sex schools. It would close faith-based foster care and adoption agencies that honor children’s rights to a mother and father. The bill would even act as an abortion mandate. We must pursue justice and equality for anyone denied it; but this is a regrettable approach. We are gravely disappointed with the Act’s passage in the U.S. House” (USCCB, 5/17/19).
