"You have made him little less than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor."

Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity (6/16/19)

In the News
  • "faithful Catholics have to do their part to ensure that our Masses and church buildings are truly beautiful, that our parishes offer a genuine fellowship for those seeking it, and that our homilies and programs teach the fullness of our faith in light of our eternal destiny with God. We must provide a real encounter with the transcendent God and with a people genuinely in love with him. If we instead offer a religious version of contemporary entertainment and values, the Nones who are seeking something real will go look somewhere else" (Crisis, 6/11/19).

  • Prostitution is an 'inherently violent' practice, say critics of decriminalization (CNA, 5/31/19)
  • "McCarrick, who has always declared himself innocent, was deprived of any opportunity to appeal the sentence. Where is the due process?.... I believe...that the mere 'reduction to the lay state' is completely inadequate, because it does not provide a remedy and does not express the concern for the most important purpose of punishment, namely, the salvation of McCarrick's soul. Indeed, unless it is accompanied by other measures, a simple laicization could be considered an expression of contempt for the lay state. The idea that a prelate who misbehaves is punished by being 'reduced' to the lay state smacks of clericalism. As Professor Scott Hahn argues, it undermines the meaning of the universal call to holiness. I believe, and I am not the only one, that the penalty of excommunication — from which he can be absolved at any time — should also be imposed on McCarrick. As an appropriately dosed medication, it would be imposed to induce him to take responsibility for his sins, to repent, to be reconciled with God, and thus to save his soul" (Archbishop Vigano, 5/2/19)
