Pennsylvania MUST Opt Out of Obamacare Abortion Coverage!

  • Pennsylvania Senate Bill 3 was designed to prevent tax payer funding of at least some "Obamacare" abortions.  After passing the Senate way back on 6/7/11, things looked good - provided SB 3 also passed the House and that Governor Corbett applied his promised signature.
  • Instead of just running SB 3, an identical bill - House Bill 1977 - was put up in the House and passed on 12/12/11.  Somehow, SB 3 and HB 1977 were NEVER reconciled and sent for Governor Corbett's signature.
  • A 6/4/12 ACLU memo to its board of directors is revealing: "Reproductive rights (HB 1077, HB 1977/SB 3, HB 2405): There has been little-to-no activity around these bills for months. HB 1077, the bill to mandate an ultrasound at least 24 hours before an abortion, hit a wall when it was voted out of committee, and the resulting controversy may have crippled the chances of the bills to block insurance coverage of abortion in the exchange created by healthcare reform, HB 1977 and SB 3."  Translation: After passing SB 3 and HB 1977, anti-life analysis took comfort that some (supposedly pro life) politicians were scared off by reaction to HB 1077!
  • The Pa Catholic Conference reminds us (2/28/13): "As the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Affordable Care Act and Pennsylvania has chosen not to set up a state exchange, Pennsylvania must take steps to prevent abortion coverage in the federal insurance exchanges used in PA. Please send a message by clicking here to your legislators requesting that this important pro-life issue be addressed as soon as possible!"
  • As per the Pennsylvania Family Council, abortion opt out legislation is still SB 3 in the Senate, while it's now HB 818 in the Pennsylvania House.  We cannot allow SB 3 and HB 818 to have the same fate as SB 3 and HB 1977!  Our elected officials must hear from us: "For phone numbers, click here.  To send an email message, click here."
