Catholic Health East - Making a Mockery of Conscience Protection

In a 9/7/11 letter, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, chairman of the USCCB's Committee on Pro-Life Activities, urged our representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives and in the U.S. Senate to co-sponor and support the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (H.R. 1179, S. 1467)." The Pennsylvania Catholic Conference and the Pennsylvania Catholic Health Association have echoed Cardinal DiNardo's call for conscience protection. Yet Catholic Health East (parent organization for five of the six Catholic hospitals in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia) flaunts Catholic teaching to such an extreme that it continues an association with a known abortionist (i.e., Dr. Frank Craparo does so-called "selective reductions.")! In addition - of physicians listed in various Catholic Health East online medical directories - only one gynecologist or ob/gyn specialist can also be found among NFP-only medical professionals in Pennsylvania!

If Catholic Health East is doing such an absolutely miserable job of exemplifying properly formed consciences in Catholic health care, what hope of legal protection can Catholic health care workers possibly have who are working in secular settings? Catholic Health East is betraying Catholic health care workers and making a mockery of requests for conscience protection.

Personally, I fervently pray that our new archbishop will do everything in his power to immediately correct this sacriligeous and scandalous situation.
