Many who claim to be "pro life" appear to have lost their moral compasses....
- The $1.1 trillion omnibus bill leaves Planned Parenthood funding unscathed, despite some efforts by abortion opponents in Congress to curb — or at least do an audit of — the taxpayer dollars going to the organization. This has both the White House and the nation’s largest abortion provider to declaring victory....The push to roll back funding came after the release of shocking undercover videos that appeared to show Planned Parenthood executives promoting the sale of unborn baby body parts. 'Many of my colleagues and I still believe the better choice for taxpayers is to redirect Planned Parenthood’s federal funding to the thousands of community health centers that are actually providing health services to women in need,' Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus told TheBlaze in a statement....Rep. John Fleming (R-La.) said he would vote against the omnibus legislation on several fronts, including abortion issues....the legislation still allows churches to be forced to directly pay for abortions through their insurance plans and requires taxpayer funding of abortions through federal agencies and state exchanges” (The Blaze, Planned Parenthood and White House Take Victory Lap Following Massive Spending Bill Negotiations, 12/16/15).
- "The 2,009 page fiscal 2016 spending deal that the Republican House leadership released today authorizes $1,205,146,000,000 in federal outlays between now and the end of fiscal 2016, according to the Congressional Budget Office, and it does not prohibit funding of Planned Parenthood, according to the House Appropriations Committee" (CNSNews, 2009-Page, $1,205,146,000,000 Republican Spending Deal Allows Funding of Planned Parenthood, 12/16/15).
- "Planned Parenthood is praising Democrats in Congress after the spending bill released early Wednesday morning spared the organization from cuts. As expected, the spending bill does not defund Planned Parenthood, a clear deal-breaker for Democrats, but the absence of spending cuts is still noteworthy given the intensity of the push to defund the group earlier this year....After pushing for complete defunding of Planned Parenthood ahead of the Oct. 1 funding deadline, the conservative House Freedom Caucus scaled back its demands to a call for compromise language that would give states the ability to choose to defund the group. The compromise was not included in the final spending bill. The Freedom Caucus and Pro-Life Caucus also pushed for the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act to be included. That would have strengthened protections for organizations that do not want to cover abortions and doctors who do not want to provide them, as well as allowing people to sue if they think the protections are violated. It also was not included in the final spending bill....Democrats touted that the bill includes $286 million for Title X family planning, a program that would have been completely eliminated in House Republicans’ proposal earlier this year" (The Hill, "Planned Parenthood unscathed in spending bill, 12/16/15).
- "The House's new Speaker has unveiled a $1.67 trillion budget that fully funds Planned Parenthood for the next nine-and-a-half months....While the House appears ready to pass the bill on Friday, a board member of the group that conducted the undercover video investigations said the funding shows 'the corrupt, establishment Republicans are once again walking lockstep with the pro-abortion Democrats to give the criminal enterprise Planned Parenthood more money'" (LifeSiteNews, House budget bill funds Planned Parenthood, reduces UNFPA funds, 12/16/15)
- "ever since the Republican Party became the party of keeping the government open at all costs, we get bills like this....It fully funds Planned Parenthood....It is beyond comprehension, and it is a total squandering of moral authority to fully fund the butchery at Planned Parenthood....the Republicans have the largest number of seats in the House they've had in Congress since the Civil War. And it hasn't made any difference at all. It is as though Nancy Pelosi is still running the House and Harry Reid is still running the Senate....There wasn't any intensity to defund. All there was is just a bunch of words, just a bunch of people standing up saying they were going to. This wouldn't stand. They were gonna lead an effort to defund it. But nobody ever meant it" (Rush Limbaugh, GOP Sells America Down the River, 12/17/15).
