Dear Pro-Life Friends:

Thank you again for your support of our organization's efforts to effect pro-life public policies and to grow the Pa. pro-life movement in Pa.

Only Vote for Rebecca Warren in the May 21, 2019 Primary Election

For pro-life citizens, the only statewide competitive race in this Election is the Republican Primary for Superior Court.

Three candidates are running for two nominations.  All three candidates, Megan King, Christylee Peck, and Rebecca Warren say that they are pro-life.  The Pa. Republican Party has endorsed King and Peck.  However, I recommend that you only vote for Rebecca Warren.

Rebecca Warren is the only candidate who responded to the Pa. Family Policy Council's question regarding whether Roe v. Wade was properly decided.  Rebecca Warren responded that Roe v. Wade was incorrectly decided.  Megan King and Christylee Peck both declined to respond to this question.

Montgomery County Commissioner

The Republican Primary Election for Montgomery County Commissioner features five candidates running for two nominations.  Incumbent Commissioner Joe Gale is running for re-election.  Joe won an upset victory in 2015 when, at the age of 26, he challenged the Party endorsed Scott Zelov, who was a Board Member of Planned Parenthood.  All of the other four candidates in this year's Election have taken a pro-life position.

During the past week, an obscure Political Action Committee, entitled the "Hometown Freedom Action Network" at PO Box 75727, Washington, DC 20013, has been sending anti-Joe Gale mailers to Republican voters.  These mailers, through gross distortions, half-truths, and lack of context, imply that Joe supports Democrat policies - and even Planned Parenthood.  Another obscure PAC has been running anti-Joe Gale radio ads with a similar message.

The other candidates and the leaders of the Montgomery County Republican Committee deny any involvement with these mailers, radio ads, or PACs.

Because of the strongly pro-life position taken by all five candidates, our organization has not actively advocated for any of these candidates.  Nevertheless, the other leaders of our Montgomery County affiliate and I affirm Joe's pro-life commitment and support for Republican policies.  Please do not allow these mailers or ads to influence your vote or recommendations to others.

Pennsylvania House Passes Down Syndrome Abortion Ban

On May 14, 2019, the Pa. House passed H.B.321, the Down Syndrome Abortion Ban, by a 117-76 vote.  I am attaching a copy of the roll call vote on Final Passage.

All of the Republicans voted for H.B.321, except Frank Farry, Todd Polinchock, Todd Stephens, and Wendi Thomas, who all voted against H.B.321.  Republicans Christopher Quinn and Tommy Sankey did not vote on H.B.321.

All of the Democrats voted against H.B.321, except Frank Burns, Anthony DeLuca, Mike Driscoll, William Kortz, Bridget Kosierowski, Anita Kulik, Mark Longietti, Brandon Markosek, Robert Matzie, Harry Readshaw, Chris Sainato, and Pam Snyder, who all voted for H.B.321.  Scott Conklin, Angel Cruz, Maria Donatucci, Movita Johnson-Harrell, Joanna McClinton, and Mark Rozzi did not vote on H.B.321.

Similar legislation passed the Pa. House in April 2018 by a 139-56 vote.  Thus, this May 14, 2019 vote provides a stark reminder of the negative impact of the November 6, 2018 General Election, as well as the urgency and importance of the Pa. pro-life movement to zealously pursue effective efforts to pass pro-life legislation.

As I described in my May 3, 2019 email to you, our challenge is to persuade the Pa. Senate to pass H.B.321, rather than a slightly different version of this legislation.  Pa. Senate passage of a slightly different version would lead to another pride-of-authorship standoff between the Pa. House and Pa. Senate, which results in no pro-life legislation being passed.

Excellent Turnout for Event at Planned Parenthood's Abortion Chamber in Center-City Philadelphia

Our organization joined with several other local, state and national pro-life organizations to plan and promote this Event, which was attended by at least 1,000 people.

I believe that this excellent turnout and messages at this Event can prove very beneficial to the pro-life movement.  For example, some of the groups that sponsored this Event have indicated a willingness to promote and participate in our June 18, 2019 Stand Up For Life Rally in Harrisburg.

I am attaching

- our organization's flyer, which describes the context and purposes of the Event;

- a CatholicPhilly.com report on the Event; and

- a May 12, 2019 Philadelphia Inquirer report on the Event.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading this correspondence.  Please continue to support pro-life endeavors in Pa.!

Best wishes,

Mike McMonagle

P.S.
I remind you to please vote for only Rebecca Warren for Pa. Superior Court in the May 21, 2019 Republican Primary Election.

Mike
