"Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district." Huh???

Why would they beg Jesus "to leave their district"?  Were any in denial of demonic power and question its existence?

  • Ohio State law professor Michelle Alexander (2012) reports the "War on Drugs" to be conducted in a racially discriminatory manner, effectively replacing the earlier heinous evils of slavery and "Jim Crow" with mass incarceration:
      • "More than two million people found themselves behind bars at the turn of the twenty-first century, and millions more were relegated to the margins...where discrimination in employment, housing, and access to education were perfectly legal, and where they could be denied the right to vote....Ninety percent of those admitted to prison for drug offenses in many states were black or Latino, yet the mass incarceration of communities of color was explained in race-neutral terms....The New Jim Crow was born" (p. 58).
      • "If we had actually learned to show love, care, compassion, and concern across racial lines during the Civil Rights Movement... mass incarceration would not exist today.... every caste system, including mass incarceration, has been supported by racial indifference - a lack of caring and compassion for people of other races" (pp. 177, 204).
      • "If we become serious about dismantling the system of mass incarceration, we must end the War on Drugs....Obama...is proposing nothing less than revving up the drug war through the same failed policies and programs that have systematically locked young men of color into a permanent racial undercaste" (pp. 232, 253).
    • Joe Biden on Crime and Mass Incarceration (NY Times, 6/27/2019)
"During the ’80s and ’90s, Mr. Biden helped shepherd a string of bills that transformed the criminal justice system — and, experts say, hurt America’s black communities."
