Conscience Rights: Prolife Healthcare Workers are Bearing the Cross of Persecution (10/12/21 email from HALO; graphics removed)

CONSCIENCE RIGHTS: PROLIFE HEALTHCARE WORKERS ARE
BEARING THE CROSS OF PERSECUTION
By Anne O'Meara
October 12, 2021

A lie doesn't become truth, wrong doesn't become right, and evil doesn't become good, just because it's accepted by a majority.

~Pastor Rick Warren

Conscience is the inner voice that gives a person the ability to recognize good and evil and choose between them. It is God speaking to a person. For healthcare workers who respect the sanctity of human life, participating in certain procedures – such as abortion, assisted suicide and euthanasia – is unthinkable.

Throughout the ages, numerous people have withstood merciless persecution for refusing to violate their consciences. That kind of courage is needed today when healthcare workers are bullied into providing "medical services" which they find morally repugnant.

HALO received the below note from one of our courageous supporters who lost her job because she stood up for life.

We also heard some disturbing comments on conscience rights from HALO's friend, Ron Panzer.
"… Pro-life nurses and doctors have been weeded out over 20 years…People don't understand how bad it really is. And that death culture has spread to the hospitals, hospice care, nursing homes, assisted-living as well. Home health care is the one niche where it is much less likely to happen. It's the reality without any doubt!"

Hearing how conscience rights have eroded brings me to a key question:
What would you do if you were a healthcare worker and asked to do something that violates your conscience? Would you stand with the Gospel and Christ, or would you comply and violate your conscience in order to avoid the suffering of being ostracized and/or losing your job? I recently read an article with these powerful words that seem appropriate to share.

"If you've ever asked yourself, what would you do if you were alive at the time of Christ? Would you have wiped with a veil His face? Would you have carried the cross like Simon of Cyrene? Would you have stood beneath the cross like Mary and the women and the beloved disciple? Or would you have run off in hiding? Or would you have called for His crucifixion?" 1

In closing, Julie Grimstad, HALO's Board President, once said, "There was a time when Christians were considered of great benefit to society, not enemies to be crushed. Christians built hospitals, schools, and orphanages. The Church was renowned for her works of charity. Christians fed and clothed the poor, cared for the sick, instructed the ignorant, and generally promoted the common good.

Christians still do all those things but are now maligned and hindered in our efforts by those who want to cancel our consciences. But we are not cowards. We will not be silent. We will defend the conscience rights of healthcare workers and protest violations of human life with all the resources at our command until we draw our last breaths."

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Healthcare Advocacy and Leadership Organization is to promote, protect, and advocate for the rights of the medically vulnerable through direct patient and family interactions; through intercessory prayer; through community education and awareness programs; and through promotion and development of concrete *"life-affirming healthcare"* alternatives for those facing the grave consequences of healthcare rationing and unethical practices, especially those at risk of euthanasia and assisted suicide.

*"Life-affirming healthcare" is defined as medical care in which the paramount principle is the sanctity of life, which means that the life and safety of each person come first and each person receives medical care across their lifespan based on their need for care and never with an intention to hasten death, regardless of their abilities or perceived "quality of life."
