The Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera
Bishop of Scranton
300 Wyoming Ave
Scranton, Pennsylvania 18503

Your Excellency:

On September 26th, I requested that a public statement be issued, with regard to Senator Robert Casey's vote for the Defense Authorization bill. A vote for that bill was tantamount to a vote for abortions in military hospitals. The pro life community of Catholics and others of good will was firmly opposed to that bill as written. When I phoned last week, your secretary assured me that I would be hearing from you.

Your Excellency, consequences of Senator Casey's ongoing betrayal of the most vulnerable Pennsylvanians are becoming more apparent. In fact, it appears that three Catholic hospitals in your diocese are about to be lost forever; they may very well wind up in the hands of individuals who will permit abortions. Despite denials from such individuals as Sister Carol Keehan, many view the need to sell these hospitals as a direct consequence of “ObamaCare" and a start of things to come. All the while claiming to be pro life, Senator Robert Casey defied the analysis of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and voted for ObamaCare (cf., http://spectator.org/archives/2010/10/11/the-presidents-nun-obamacare-s).
