The Baptism of the Lord

The Baptism of the Lord (1/8/18; the close of Christmas time)

  • "[We should promote] A lifestyle that is not schizophrenic, that for instance takes care of animals in extinction but ignores the problems of the elderly; or that defends the Amazon forest but neglects workers’ rights to a just wage, and so on"  (Pope Francis, 1/5/18)
  •  Communicating Key Truths About Marriage and Family in the University Classroom (Institute for Family Studies, 1/4/18
    • Pornography Consumption Fuels Sexual Harassment (National Center on Sexual Exploitation, 1/6/18)
      • New book can help families in fight against pornography (Catholic Philly.com, 1/5/18)
      • New Annual Report from Planned Parenthood (American Life League, 1/5/18)
        "....PP had a record annual income of $1.46 billion. It reported a profit of $98.5 million while getting $543.7 million from the American taxpayer....Over the last three years, Planned Parenthood has almost tripled its donor list....How many of your friends and neighbors, for example, know that Planned Parenthood is responsible for keeping pornography on the Internet in the United States?  We need to teach that fact and many more...."
    • "Many donor-conceived adults are now speaking out against third-party reproduction and surrogacy because:
        It treats children as commodities to be shopped for, purchased, and sold....
        It denies children a relationship with one/both biological parents and extended family....
        It robs children of biological identity and medical history and kinship bonds....
        The largest study on outcomes for donor conceived children...reveals that, on average, young adults conceived through sperm donation are hurting more, are more confused, and feel more isolated from their families. They fare worse than their peers raised by biological parents on important outcomes such as depression, delinquency, and substance abuse. Moreover, the study found that:
        • Two-thirds agree, 'My sperm donor is half of who I am;'
        • About half are disturbed that money was involved in their conception;
        • Over half say when they see someone who resembles them they wonder if they are related;
        • Nearly half say they have feared being attracted to or having sexual relations with someone to whom they are unknowingly related;
        • Two-thirds affirm the right of donor offspring to know the truth about their origins;
        • About half of donor offspring have concerns about or serious objections to donor conception itself, even when parents tell their children the truth."(Them Before Us, 1/5/18)
    •  7 New Year’s Resolutions for a Healthier Marriage in 2018 (Institute for Family Studies, 1/2/18)
