The Epiphany, the Baptism of the Lord, and Cana

  • "Except for Easter and Pentecost, the Solemnity of the Epiphany is the oldest of all Christian festivals....The Jan. 6 feast of the Epiphany in the Roman church also acknowledges the baptism and the wedding at Cana: 'Three mysteries mark this holy day: today the star leads the magi to the infant Christ; today water is changed into wine for the wedding feast; today Christ wills to be baptized by John in the river Jordan to bring us salvation' (Liturgy of the Hours, Evening Prayer II, Epiphany)" (The Epiphany: Christ revealed, Our Sunday Visitor, 1/2/19).
