"Pro Marriage" Republicans largely seem to be MIA....

With regard to our legislators in Washington, it seems fairly well known that Democratic Senator Robert Casey is NOT a defender of traditional marriage.  In fact, he is one of the original co-sponsors of the misleadingly named "Respect for Marriage Act" (S 1236 ), calling for repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act.  Yet, much of what Phyllis Schafly had to say in this morning's Courier Times is hard to counter:
  • "Political support for traditional marriage seemed to evaporate in the summer of 2013.... Republicans in the House of Representatives had hired top legal talent to defend DOMA in court. After the Supreme Court decision, they quietly canceled their legal support for defending marriage and have said nothing since.  We hardly hear anyone standing up for the proposition that traditional civil marriage is essential....
  • "The nuclear family is the essential building block of a free society with limited government. The nuclear family is essential to an economic structure of limited government; without it, the government moves in to provide what the family would have done for itself....
  • "All those who care about preserving the religious and economic freedoms that are the hallmark of America should realize we cannot reassert constitutional rights, private enterprise, balanced budgets, reduction of government spending and freedom from government management of our lives without the intact, self-supporting traditional nuclear family functioning as the foundation of our society"
