"Civil authority should consider it a grave duty 'to acknowledge the true nature of marriage and the family, to protect and foster them, to safeguard public morality, and promote domestic prosperity.'"

  • "Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn as a haven for political and religious diversity. But now, a new bill in Pennsylvania poses an existential threat to that history of freedom and tolerance....SB 613 has been introduced as a Senate counterpart to the Fairness Act, which was reintroduced in the House this year as HR 1410....Cities and towns have already passed 43 local ordinances that can be used to target residents for their beliefs....the city of Philadelphia halted the placements of two Christian foster care agencies—Catholic Social Services and Bethany Christian Services—because of their religious beliefs about the nature of the family.... the very possibility of such a law being implemented can be sufficient to drive regular residents out of the public square for fear of being accused of discrimination" (Newsweek, 4/26/18).

Like it seems to be for many clergy, religious, and lay faithful, remedial catechesis is in order for several of our own state officials who identify as Catholic.
      Pa. Rep. Galloway (AOH member),
Pa. Rep. Quinn (Archbishop Wood alumnus; St. Joseph University alumnus), and
      Pa. Sen McIlhinney (AOH member)
are actually championing Pa SB 613 / HB 1410, which the Pa Catholic Conference has warned "will jeopardize many churches and their charitable outreach if they continue to adhere to their religious belief because the proposals do not adequately provide for conscience protections."

Remedial catechesis is also in order for several of our own federal officials who identify as Catholic and are
failing to champion the Child Welfare Provider Protection Act:
U.S. Sen. Casey (College of the Holy Cross alumnus; Jesuit Volunteer Corp Alumnus; Catholic University of America alumnus),
U.S. Sen. Toomey (LaSalle Academy alumnus), and
U.S. Rep Fitzpatrick (Bishop Egan alumnus; LaSalle University alumnus)

"Civil authority should consider it a grave duty 'to acknowledge the true nature of marriage and the family, to protect and foster them, to safeguard public morality, and promote domestic prosperity.'"
