A Father's Day Model for the Defense of Life and Marriage

As reported in today's Courier Times, it was on Father's Day a half century ago that Phillies' father of seven (at the time) Jim Bunning threw a perfect game against the New York Mets....

On June 21, 1964, 32 year old Bunning had brought his family for a trip to Shea Stadium.  In 1964 and  1965, the New York Mets' home was adjacent to the World's Fair grounds (Michelangelo's Pieta was even there at that time.).  With the post perfect game media frenzy, the Bunning family had to wait for another day to visit the World's Fair!

After his baseball career, Jim Bunning was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and the United States . In 2004, Jim Bunning was elected to his second term in the United States senate, where the Catholic statesman  had a reputation as untiringly pro life and untiringly pro marriage (Nothing about that in today's Courier Times!)...

One day, our Lord will call for Jim Bunning (like He will for each of us) out of the bullpen of this life. To Jim Bunning, it is easy to imagine that our Lord will say: "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Come Judgment Day, Jim Bunning's untiring defense of life and marriage will be of far, far greater significance than the game he played in 1964.
